Senior Software Engineer - Messaging

Role Overview

Reddit is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Messaging) to tackle large-scale streaming infrastructure and distributed messaging challenges. You’ll partner with your team and key internal users (ML/AI/Search) to build solutions that can scale with Reddit’s product growth while maintaining high availability and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the team and organization’s long-term technical strategy
• Refine and maintain Reddit’s messaging infrastructure for asynchronous service communication supporting hundreds of millions of users
• Own managed and self-hosted infrastructure for message produce/consume flows, plus the associated tooling and automation to operate it efficiently
• Collaborate across engineering, data science, machine learning, and product stakeholders

Requirements

• 5+ years building internet-scale software (preferably with a focus on ML storage/infrastructure)
• Strong software development experience in one or more general-purpose languages: Go (Golang), Python, C++, or Java
• Experience with distributed messaging and orchestration technologies including Kafka and Kubernetes
• Hands-on experience implementing features, optimizations, and bug fixes for distributed messaging systems
• Excellent communication skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical field
