About the role
Role Overview
Senior Backend Engineer to design and build backend services for an enterprise identity platform in an early-stage, high-autonomy environment. Full-time remote, with candidates based in the US and able to work Eastern (ET) or Pacific (PT) time zones.
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable, secure backend services from scratch for the enterprise identity platform.
- Own API design across web and service-to-service boundaries.
- Model database schemas and contribute to system architecture.
- Partner early with product and design to shape what gets built.
- Build and operate distributed, high-availability systems with enterprise-scale reliability requirements.
- Apply security best practices across the stack (“secure by design”).
- Translate product/design requirements into engineering architecture and design documents.
- Help shape engineering culture, practices, and hiring as an early team member.
Requirements
- 4+ years of production backend experience writing Go.
- Experience building and operating distributed backend systems in production.
- Early-stage startup experience (seed to Series B).
- Bachelor’s degree in CS or a related field.
- Strong API design and database schema design (SQL; Postgres preferred).
- Clear communicator who can explain technical topics to non-technical audiences.
- Collaborative, approachable style.
Nice to Have
- Kubernetes and CI/CD pipeline experience.
- Observability tooling (metrics, alerting, request tracing).
- Experience with identity/access management or other high-stakes domains (e.g., fintech).
