Senior Software Engineer (LLM Observability)

Role overview

Senior Software Engineer on Honeycomb’s LLM Observability team. You’ll design, build, and deliver backend systems and APIs, contribute to full-stack product features, and provide technical leadership while owning software in production.

Key missions

• Design and deliver backend systems and APIs, with emphasis on clarity, maintainability, and backward compatibility.
• Contribute to full-stack product features, including frontend code (React/TypeScript) and backend code (Go).
• Define operational models and team guidelines; plan, lead, and ship complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Build and deliver production services and APIs; participate in an on-call rotation.
• Support and own your software in production; proactively address issues and technical debt.
• Provide technical guidance through design reviews and mentorship.
• Communicate clearly in writing and in-person; collaborate cross-functionally and iterate based on customer interaction.

Requirements

• Interest in observability and a strong production culture; experience supporting software in production.
• React and TypeScript proficiency for frontend contributions.
• Strong full-stack experience across the development lifecycle; primary expertise in backend systems.
• Track record of helping others improve: mentorship, leading technical design reviews, and raising quality.
• Experience leading complex technical projects across teams/systems; incremental shipping and dependency navigation.
• Clear communication and feedback-driven collaboration.
• Ownership and autonomy: end-to-end responsibility from planning to deployment and maintenance.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor).
• Deep backend expertise designing and maintaining services and APIs in Go (or similar), including strong opinions on API design, error handling, and developer experience.
