Senior Software Engineer (Live)

Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer at Topstep, you’ll build and evolve the systems powering the trader experience—training, trading insights, and payout requests. You’ll primarily work with TypeScript and React to develop cloud-native applications for high-throughput, low-latency workloads, while influencing engineering standards across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate cloud-native applications with an emphasis on:
  • reliability
  • safe deployments
  • operational simplicity
• Embed automated testing, observability, and operational ownership throughout feature delivery
• Proactively identify and resolve issues to keep the platform stable and performant
• Collaborate with product engineering teams to champion event-driven best practices
• Deliver scalable, resilient systems and help ensure safe growth in usage and complexity

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years building and operating production-grade systems with user-facing APIs, with proven impact on scalability and reliability
• Strong full-stack foundation:
  • Backend API design: TypeScript, GraphQL, REST
  • Frontend development: React, Next.js, TypeScript
• Deep expertise in scalable distributed systems, including:
  • event-driven architectures
  • message queues
  • eventual consistency
  • race condition handling
  • focus on performance, security, and maintainability
• Strong database fundamentals (e.g., PostgreSQL or SQL Server), including schema design, migrations, indexing, and query optimization
• Excellent communication skills to translate complex concepts for varied audiences
• Production mindset: metrics, logging, tracing, on-call participation, and end-to-end delivery ownership
