About the role
Role Overview
Senior Software Engineer, iOS for the App Growth team within Core Experiences engineering at the Wikimedia Foundation. The team focuses on growing active readership by making the apps a destination for knowledge lovers and managing the cross-platform feature framework.
This is a fully remote role at a global organization. To ensure effective communication, the role requires at least 4 hours of overlap with 14:00–21:00 UTC.
Responsibilities
- Delivery & enablement: Lead the team in delivering medium-complexity initiatives (with support) from technical discovery through delivery.
- Planning & scope: Break initiatives into features, drive estimation, manage scope, and identify risks early.
- Implementation: Improve the mobile Wikipedia product experience on iOS, including leading system design for medium-sized projects.
- Accessible, adaptable components: Design and build components that are accessible, scalable, and adaptable.
- Quality, testing & observability: Build systems that are easy to test, observe, and debug; instrument features to enable deeper analysis by Product Analysts.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with product managers, designers, analysts, and native app engineers to balance user needs, technical constraints, platform expectations, and timelines.
- Prioritization: Identify high-impact technical opportunities and risks across a quarter; help shape priorities and sequencing.
- Mentorship: Support others through code review, technical design, pairing, delegating meaningful ownership, and modeling strong engineering judgment.
- Culture & standards: Raise standards across code review, technical design, testing, documentation, accessibility, observability, and decision-making.
- Operational awareness: Plan work with upstream/downstream effects in mind; support hiring and onboarding.
