Senior Software Engineer (Integrations, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning)

Role overview

Senior Software Engineer (Integrations, AI/ML) at ClickHouse. You will own and evolve critical parts of ClickHouse’s AI ecosystem, shaping architecture, performance, and product-facing feature direction. You’ll build tools and integrations that help engineers and data scientists use ClickHouse’s speed and scale within their existing frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Design and build robust, production-ready integrations for ClickHouse’s AI/ML ecosystem.
• Own the full lifecycle of key AI/ML integrations, including architecture and performance.
• Collaborate with the open-source community: triage issues, support contributors, and influence the roadmap based on real-world feedback.
• Develop tools that enable engineers and data scientists to leverage ClickHouse in production workflows.

Requirements

• Solid experience in the Python data ecosystem: Pandas, NumPy, Pydantic, and related libraries.
• Strong database fundamentals: SQL, data modeling, query optimization, and familiarity with OLAP/analytical databases.
• Hands-on AI/ML production experience in data-engineering contexts, such as:
  • embedding generation
  • vector search
  • feature pipelines
  • LLM-powered tooling that shipped and ran in production
• Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining production-grade Python connectors/SDKs/integrations for at least one major platform (orchestration, BI, MLOps, or data transformation).
• Strong concurrent Python skills: threading, multiprocessing, and async patterns.
• 7+ years of software development experience, including hands-on time as a Data Scientist or ML Engineer.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable collaborating across teams and with open-source communities.
• Prior experience as a Data Engineer or Data Scientist in a product-facing or platform role.
• Familiarity with ClickHouse or similar high-performance OLAP databases.
• Familiarity with the JVM ecosystem.
• Experience deploying AI/ML models in production (e.g., inference APIs and vector databases).

Nice to have

• Familiarity with ClickHouse specifically (not only similar OLAP platforms).
• Familiarity with JVM ecosystem (e.g., Java/Scala tooling).
• Experience with dbt, Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect.
• Prior experience with vector databases and inference APIs in real production systems.
