Senior Software Engineer II

Role Overview

Senior Software Engineer II on ActBlue’s AAA (Authentication, Authorization, and Access) team. You’ll be a senior technical contributor providing the identity and access foundations that other product areas rely on—balancing security, scalability, and rapid delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical execution of large, cross-team initiatives (e.g., unifying login across ActBlue products; implementing role-based, least-privilege access controls at scale).
• Architect, refactor, and improve identity and access systems for donors, campaigns, organizations, and internal users.
• Partner with product and design stakeholders to shape the roadmap and anticipate stakeholder information needs and trade-offs.
• Serve as a go-to resource for engineering teams on system design and best practices, especially around security, identity, and access control.
• Develop and champion best practices and reusable design patterns to improve maintainability and security posture.
• Demonstrate technical leadership through documentation, effective testing and monitoring, and clear, audience-oriented communication.
• Actively support team growth through knowledge sharing, feedback, and inclusive team culture.

Requirements

• 5–8+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Proven ability to lead complex initiatives from conception to delivery (including working with multiple engineers and ambiguous requirements).
• Experience designing simple, maintainable solutions using well-accepted design patterns.
