Senior Software Engineer

Role Overview

Senior Backend Engineer for a remote, US time zone–aligned team at a profitable tech startup. You will build and evolve backend systems that power a marketplace, improving reliability, trust, and customer outcomes through high-leverage platform work.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve product-focused platform services and business logic to improve marketplace health, reliability, and customer outcomes
• Own backend features end-to-end (scoping, implementation, rollout, and iteration) with a focus on quality and sustainability
• Design, run, and analyze experiments to move key metrics (e.g., geo-based timing changes to reduce unclaimed jobs and improve retention)
• Improve data flows and operational robustness across systems/integrations; identify and fix sync gaps before they impact revenue or customer experience
• Lead risk-reducing technical initiatives, including migrating/cleaning up legacy systems to minimize unnecessary PII storage and strengthen data hygiene
• Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, and Analytics in a fast-moving environment
• Contribute to team health with clear communication and pragmatic tradeoffs across EU/US time zones
• Participate in an on-call rotation with US time zone coverage (support schedules split between EU and US)

Requirements

• Strong backend engineering experience delivering customer-impacting product work (business logic, workflows, marketplace systems) in a fast-moving environment
• Product-minded approach to the platform
• Solid system design and API development fundamentals, with attention to edge cases, performance, and operational health
• Experience deploying and running safe changes in production (debugging, monitoring, participating in on-call)
• Comfort with data-sensitive systems and migrations, with a focus on reducing risk and unnecessary PII storage
• Ability to design and run experiments/iterative improvements and measure impact
• Clear, proactive communication in a distributed team with some schedule flexibility

Nice-to-Haves

• Technical breadth across modern web/services stacks (a strong fundamentals-first profile is preferred over a perfect stack match)
