Senior Software Engineer

Role Overview

Senior Software Engineer on the React Platform team at GitHub. You’ll design and evolve the frontend architecture, frameworks, tooling, and performance infrastructure that powers GitHub’s entire web UI and helps teams build scalable, accessible, performant, secure React applications.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve frontend frameworks, tooling, and architectural patterns for scalable, accessible, performant React apps
• Improve client-side performance and reliability by identifying latency issues, strengthening observability, and raising web platform standards
• Design, develop, test, and ship high-quality technical solutions
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to shape platform investments and deliver innovative solutions
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring/pairing, and code reviews
• Own system health and quality, including participation in on-call/first responder rotations
• Write architecture briefs/proposals, run experiments, and build prototypes for large-scale systems
• Design and implement APIs to enable seamless integration between components
• Use CI/CD tooling to build automated pipelines for continuous integration and delivery
• Write maintainable code and deepen expertise in the systems you build

Requirements

• 6+ years software engineering experience (or equivalent degree + years of experience)
• Proven experience delivering production software in languages including (but not limited to): JavaScript and others such as C, C++, C#, Java, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python
