Senior Software Engineer (Gen AI)

Role Overview

Join Workday’s Adaptive Planning organization as a Senior Software Engineer (Gen AI). You’ll help redefine financial planning by designing and building intelligent, agentic workflows for next-generation FP&A capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of AI agents that improve productivity and decision-making in financial planning.
• Integrate secure, scalable, reliable agentic capabilities into core Adaptive Planning features in collaboration with product and engineering.
• Own the end-to-end AI development lifecycle:
  • problem framing
  • data preparation
  • model/agent development
  • deployment
  • continuous improvement and monitoring
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
• Collaborate with engineers and product managers to deliver practical, high-quality AI-enabled software.

Requirements

• 4+ years working on data science, machine learning, or related software development teams.
• 4+ years in Java (object-oriented programming).
• 4+ years with Python supporting ML/AI libraries, including shipping secure production solutions.
• 5+ years of SaaS software development experience.
• Experience building and deploying ML solutions on large-scale datasets, including:
  • specification design
  • data collection and labeling
  • model development, validation
  • deployment and ongoing monitoring
• Strong software engineering focus on quality, continuous innovation, test automation, and performance engineering.
• Extensive experience with LLMs and agentic/RAG systems, including areas such as retrieval augmented generation (RAG), semantic search, text embeddings, and related frameworks (e.g., MCP, LangGraph).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP), Docker (containerization), and data engineering pipelines/ETL.

Nice-to-Haves

• PhD or MS in a relevant field (Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering).
