Senior Software Engineer - Full Stack

Role overview

Senior Full Stack Engineer at Topstep, building and operating the cloud-native systems behind the trader experience. You’ll help evolve the platform for reliability, scalability, and operational clarity while working primarily with TypeScript and React.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate cloud-native applications with emphasis on reliability, safe deployments, and operational simplicity
• Embed automation across delivery: testing, observability, and operational ownership
• Identify and resolve issues proactively to keep the platform stable, performant, and scalable
• Collaborate with product/engineering teams and champion event-driven best practices
• Influence engineering standards (coding standards and reusable engineering patterns across teams)

Required qualifications

• 7+ years building and operating production-grade systems with user-facing APIs; demonstrated impact on scalability and reliability
• Strong full-stack foundation:
  • Backend: TypeScript, GraphQL, REST API design
  • Frontend: React, Next.js, TypeScript
• Deep expertise in distributed systems and event-driven architectures (message queues, eventual consistency, race condition handling), with focus on performance, security, and maintainability
• Strong database fundamentals (e.g., PostgreSQL or SQL Server): schema design, migrations, indexing, and query optimization
• Excellent communication; ability to explain complex concepts to varied audiences
• Production mindset with metrics/logging/tracing, on-call participation, and end-to-end delivery ownership

Compensation & benefits (summary)

• Base salary range: $157,000–$193,000 annually
• Performance-based bonus eligibility
