About the role

Role Overview

Roo is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Frontend Platform to own and evolve the company’s frontend platform. This includes the design system, shared UI architecture, developer tooling, AI-assisted workflows, and the technical foundation that helps teams build consistent, polished product experiences.

Responsibilities

Own long-term technical direction of Roo’s frontend platform (systems, tooling, architecture) across web and mobile.
Partner with Product and Design to evolve the design system into a foundational platform (not a standalone library).
Make the design system easy to consume for engineers, designers, and AI agents via integrations, documentation, tooling, and developer workflows.
Lead platform initiatives such as:
- Framework upgrades
- React Native modernization
- Expo adoption
- Shared library evolution
Own migration from legacy components to the v2 design system, including self-serve migration tooling and documentation.
Create patterns that help teams ship new pages/flows quickly using a component library designed for modern (2026) workflows.
Improve developer experience through automation, documentation, templates, and workflows that increase engineering velocity.
Identify and eliminate builder friction (e.g., missing design tokens, undocumented patterns, inconsistencies) and fix systematically.

Requirements

Significant experience building production software, with a focus on frontend systems.
Strong full-stack fundamentals with deep expertise in React and TypeScript.
Comfortable building across frontend experiences, backend services, developer tooling, and platform infrastructure when needed.
React Native or broader mobile experience.
Experience working with designers and modern design systems.
Comfortable working in Figma and understanding how design decisions translate to scalable frontend architecture.
Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development (e.g., Cursor, Claude, or similar), already achieving meaningful speedups.

Nice-to-haves

Experience connecting design systems to prototyping tools or AI coding environments (mentioned as an integration focus).
