Senior Software Engineer, Frontend Platform

Role overview

Senior Software Engineer (Frontend Platform) at Roo, owning the frontend platform that underpins consistent product experiences across teams. You’ll build the design system, shared UI architecture, developer tooling, and AI-assisted workflows to make it dramatically easier for builders to ship.

Responsibilities

• Own the long-term technical direction of Roo’s frontend platform (systems, tooling, architecture) across web and mobile
• Partner with Product and Design to evolve the design system into a foundational platform
• Make the design system effortless to consume for engineers, designers, and AI agents via integrations, documentation, tooling, and workflows
• Lead platform initiatives such as:
  • Framework upgrades
  • React Native modernization
  • Expo adoption
  • Shared library evolution
• Own migration of legacy components to a v2 design system, including self-serve tooling and documentation
• Define patterns that enable fast creation of new pages/flows from a component library
• Improve developer experience through automation, templates, and shared tooling that increase engineering velocity
• Identify and eliminate friction (missing design tokens, undocumented patterns, inconsistencies) and fix systematically

Requirements

• Significant experience building production software, with focus on frontend systems
• Strong full-stack engineering fundamentals with deep expertise in React and TypeScript
• Comfortable across frontend, backend services, developer tooling, and platform infrastructure when needed
• React Native and/or mobile experience
• Experience working with designers and modern design systems
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development (e.g., Cursor, Claude, or similar)
• Comfort with Figma and understanding how design decisions translate to scalable frontend architecture
