Senior Software Engineer, Front-End Infrastructure

Role Overview

Discord’s Web Platform team provides the critical infrastructure that powers frontend development across Discord’s web, desktop, and mobile platforms. As a Senior Software Engineer, Front-End Infrastructure, you’ll improve build tooling, developer workflows, and foundational systems used by hundreds of engineers.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Build and maintain tools, pipelines, and processes to keep frontend development fast, safe, and reliable
• Become an expert in JavaScript tooling and support teams with development issues
• Refactor and upgrade systems to pay down tech debt and improve maintainability
• Create new internal tools so frontend projects “just work”
• Dive deep into bundlers, linters, formatters, and editor plugins to optimize performance and developer experience
• Adopt and test emerging tooling features early, continuously improving the tooling ecosystem

What You Have

• 3+ years working with JavaScript tools and the Node.js ecosystem
• Familiarity and desire to work across multiple languages, including JavaScript/TypeScript and ideally others (e.g., Python, Rust, Kotlin, Go, Swift)
• Experience building/maintaining CLI tools and packages in JavaScript
• Strong software engineering habits: maintainable code and deliberate documentation
• Understanding of frontend development tools and how they work together

Bonus Points

• Experience with localization in frontend applications
• Familiarity with React Native tooling (e.g., Metro, Hermes) and bridging JS to native code
• Experience maintaining/writing plugins for bundlers, linters, or formatters
• Experience with CI/CD orchestration, including Cloudflare Workers, cloud storage, and deployment processes

Location

• Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area (specified counties)

Compensation

• US base salary range: $196,000 – $220,500 (base only), plus equity and benefits
