About the role

Role Overview

Everbridge is seeking a Senior Software Engineer focused on platform modernization. You’ll evolve a critical production system by incrementally introducing modern services, patterns, and infrastructure while maintaining production stability.

This is a remote, home-based role based anywhere in the US. The work balances legacy stewardship with forward-looking architecture—modernizing carefully rather than doing wholesale replacement.

What You’ll Do

Design and implement components of a next-generation platform architecture
Build new services and APIs that gradually replace or extend legacy functionality
Apply modernization patterns such as:
- Strangler Fig architecture
- Service extraction
- API façade layers
- Incremental data migration
Introduce modern engineering practices, tooling, and infrastructure where appropriate
Perform legacy system stewardship:
- Maintain and support existing production systems
- Make targeted stability improvements while minimizing disruption
- Improve observability, documentation, and operational reliability
Engineering & Collaboration:
- Write high-quality, maintainable, well-tested code
- Participate in architecture discussions for system evolution
- Collaborate with platform, product, and infrastructure teams
- Help foster continuous improvement and pragmatic engineering

What You’ll Bring

7–10+ years in software engineering
Experience with databases: MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL
Experience with cloud: AWS, Azure, GCP
Ability to build scalable microservices
Experience with CI/CD and infrastructure tooling:
- Terraform, Kubernetes, Argo CD
Full-stack development with languages such as:
- JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, C#, Scala
Observability tools: Grafana, Datadog
Experience working with mature systems/codebases (not only greenfield)
Ability to debug, troubleshoot, and analyze systems
Familiarity with modern practices: version control, automated testing, CI/CD
Strong ability to reason about system design, architecture trade-offs, and technical debt
Ability to mentor/guide junior engineers

Preferred Experience

Experience with system modernization / platform evolution
Experience integrating legacy applications with modern services/APIs
Familiarity with cloud, containers, or distributed systems
Background transitioning from monoliths to service-oriented architectures
Some familiarity with AI software development tools (e.g., Codex, Kiro, Speckit)
