About the role

Role Overview

Join Estuary as a Senior Software Engineer (Systems Engineer) on the Capture or Materialization teams. You will build high-performance connectors that extract data from diverse sources and reliably load it into downstream destinations.

Responsibilities

  • Research SaaS & protocol internals: understand API behavior and database protocols, accounting for rate limits, consistency models, and edge cases.
  • Build polyglot integrations: design and maintain scalable connectors primarily in Go, with contributions in Python and Rust.
  • Architect for reliability: handle distributed state, exactly-once delivery guarantees, and backpressure so data is not lost or duplicated.
  • Bridge external entropy to core performance: adapt messy third-party API realities to high-performance engine requirements.
  • Collaborate and mentor: write technical design docs, participate in code reviews, and uphold standards for performance, correctness, and developer experience.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of backend engineering experience building and operating production-grade systems at scale.
  • Strong Go proficiency; comfortable working in or learning Python and Rust.
  • Systems thinking and strong investigative ability to reason from third-party docs and API behavior.
  • Data fluency across data movement topics such as checkpointing, schema drift, and consistency model trade-offs.
  • Deep fundamentals in concurrency, memory management, and networking (e.g., gRPC, TCP/IP).
  • Ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with Rust.
  • Background in CDC and/or streaming technologies such as Kafka and Flink.
  • Contributions to data-centric open source.
  • Experience in fast-paced startup environments balancing iteration with long-term stability.

About Estuary

Estuary is a real-time data integration platform for developers and large enterprises. It combines change data capture (CDC), stream processing, and declarative configuration to build reliable, low-latency pipelines without the overhead of managing data infrastructure.
