Senior Software Engineer - Design Systems

Role Overview

Netflix’s XD Design Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Design Systems) to build and evolve the Design System platform and related productivity tools that accelerate Netflix’s product design lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to, maintain, and expand core design component libraries and capabilities used by internal teams (React).
• Implement AI solutions when appropriate to measurably speed up product design workflows.
• Act as engineering lead on projects from ideation → implementation → rollout.
• Gather stakeholder input and run internal user research to inform prioritization and feature development.
• Deliver medium to large features independently without guidance.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for support requests for the Design System portfolio.
• Partner with designers and engineers across teams to maintain integrity and reliability of the Design System.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to meet critical SLAs.
• Perform design and code reviews.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional experience shipping software.
• Experience with single-page applications (SPA) architecture, patterns, and design.
• Experience integrating with GraphQL and REST APIs.
• Strong skills in client-side instrumentation and observability.
• Proven ability to lead projects and communicate impact to partner teams.
• Strong scoping and project management skills.
• Ability to design, architect, debug, test, and document high-quality code.
• Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and Node.js.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Figma Plugins.
• Contributions to open-source projects.
• Strong intuition for user experience flows and complex state management in web apps.

• Compensation is annual salary with no bonuses; you choose the mix of salary vs stock options.
