About the role

Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer at Descript (full remote), you will help build systems that drive growth and improve the product experience. You’ll partner with product and design teams while working on full-stack development.

Key Missions

Own the experimentation framework: define the processes, tools, and best practices that enable the team to run faster, cleaner tests.
Architect personalization and user journey systems to adapt the product experience based on who the user is and what they’re trying to do.
Build data pipelines and instrumentation to provide near real-time visibility into what’s working.

Requirements

Strong communication: can explain engineering tradeoffs and report results to stakeholders.
Experience running A/B tests and product experiments (understand test quality and how to interpret results).
Deep web fundamentals: HTML, CSS, REST APIs, and performance optimization.
TypeScript/JavaScript + React expertise, including handling hard frontend questions from others.
Single-page app architecture experience and performance at scale.
Comfort with ambiguity: ability to define problems, not only solve them.
Experience-to-seniority fit: 5+ years (senior) or 8+ years (staff/lead).
Business-outcome mindset: focus on metrics and impact beyond code delivery.

Nice to Have

Experience with creative/prosumer tools.
Background in growth, lifecycle, or conversion optimization.
Familiarity with product analytics platforms such as Amplitude or Mixpanel (and others listed).
