About the role

Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer (Data Science) at ExtraHop, you will help build a fault-resilient, highly available, customer-centric platform. You’ll work with a team to deliver customer-facing features, monitor and optimize AI/ML-driven behavior detectors, and provide technical leadership to junior engineers.

Key Missions

Design, develop, test, and maintain AI/ML models and pipelines powering ExtraHop products.
Monitor, evaluate, refine, and optimize algorithms to improve accuracy and reduce false positives for model-based behavioral detectors.
Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure AI/ML features integrate cleanly into the broader product architecture.

Requirements

Production experience operating AI/ML systems, including:
- model lifecycle management
- data/training pipelines
- monitoring
Experience with cloud platforms, especially AWS.
Version control (e.g., Git) and Agile development practices.
Strong communication and collaboration skills; can work independently in a fast-paced team.
Experience with containerization using Kubernetes and Docker.
7+ years of backend development, with at least 2 years at senior level or higher.
Solid programming fundamentals in Go and/or Python (or equivalent).
Experience building and scaling distributed, highly available systems.
Background in machine learning/statistics or related quantitative disciplines.
Strong problem-solving, self-starter mindset, and technical ownership.
Understanding of threat detection, intrusion prevention, and incident response strategies.

Nice to Have / Additional Skills

Experience with ML applications in cybersecurity / NDR environments and network detection/response tooling.
Experience with API development, PostgreSQL database design, and/or SQL performance optimization.
Infrastructure-as-software tooling such as HashiCorp (Packer, Vault, Terraform).
AWS or Azure cloud services (e.g., EKS, RDS, S3, SQS, EC2, IAM).
Experience with Python web frameworks such as Django or FastAPI.
