About the role

Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer, Customer Growth at Thumbtack, you’ll help build the foundational customer experience for Neighborhoods—a hyper-local, community-driven way to show real-time social proof and service activity in a homeowner’s immediate area.

Responsibilities

Drive engineering projects to completion with a strong focus on business impact
Prioritize work to deliver goals with urgency
Execute backend ideas quickly while serving as a technical resource to other teams
Solve difficult technical problems across the stack when needed
Collaborate with Product and Design to plan and deliver engineering projects
Lead small engineering teams on larger initiatives

Requirements

5+ years of software engineering experience
Fluency in at least one major programming language and ability to work across multiple languages
Strong experience with relational databases (e.g., Postgres or MySQL)
Ability to write high-quality, maintainable, testable code
Data-driven, critical problem-solving mindset with rigorous breakdown of complex problems and understanding tradeoffs
Experience supporting and maintaining production software platforms
Experience leveraging AI coding agents to deliver production software

Nice-to-Haves / Team Context

Primary backend languages: Go, Python, PHP
Mobile languages used: Swift, Kotlin, Java
App platform work includes iOS/Android alongside backend services
