Senior Software Engineer (Core Backend & Platform Engineering)

Role overview

Join Basis Technologies as a Senior Software Engineer on the Core Backend & Platform Engineering team. You’ll help evolve the core backend by driving performance, reliability, and observability standards, improving the developer experience, and leading platform initiatives across the stack.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to and promote org-wide standards for performance, reliability, and observability (including testing strategy, environment management, and SLOs).
• Lead platform projects end-to-end, from ideation to production.
• Drive platform work across the tech stack, including:
  • Publishing/release tooling
  • Platform reliability
  • Service decomposition patterns for the main backend.
• Own delivery outcomes: quality, production support/on-call, and support for core systems and components.
• Partner with feature teams to improve developer experience and adoption of platform practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience shaping organization-wide engineering standards (testing, environment management, performance, and SLOs).
• Fluency with AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) as part of the daily workflow, including strong judgment to evaluate and refine AI-generated output.
• Hands-on experience building large-scale cloud-native systems with strong reliability, scalability, and observability.
• Strong software delivery depth, including:
  • CI/CD
  • Trunk-based development
  • Layered automated testing
  • Release practices like feature flags, canary deployments, and progressive delivery.
• Collaborative, inclusive approach to design and decision-making.

• Evidence of leading multi-team platform initiatives and improving developer productivity/experience.
