Senior Software Engineer

Role Overview

Join Common Room as a Senior Software Engineer. You’ll own and execute features, build backend APIs, and help ensure the efficiency, scalability, and reliability of the company’s systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop robust, scalable APIs to solve customer problems.
• Ensure internal capabilities, infrastructure, and systems continue to meet customer needs.
• Identify and contribute to important initiatives for company growth in a fast-moving startup environment.
• Consider observability, SLA, and scalability implications while avoiding premature optimization.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience.
• Strong comfort with AWS, PostgreSQL, and Node.js.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with other experienced engineers (including frontend/application engineers).
• Good judgment on tradeoffs and selecting appropriate tools; prefer supported, stable technologies.
• Operate independently while knowing when to seek help.
• Strong ownership, accountability, and constructive communication.
• Enjoy owning large backend projects and building simple, elegant solutions driven by customer problems.

Nice to Have

• Experience working across backend systems and integrating with frontend/application engineering teams.
