About the role

Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer at CareMessage, you will own the technical direction of the company’s core SaaS application. You’ll deliver end-to-end features across the Rails backend and React frontend, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to architectural decisions.

Key Missions / Responsibilities

Independently own complex features end-to-end across the backend and frontend.
Contribute to architecture decisions for the Applications team.
Collaborate cross-functionally to design and deliver features that reduce administrative burden for safety-net clinics.
Mentor engineers (L2), lead technical design discussions, and help set technical direction.
Operate with a data/evidence-driven mindset—use data to challenge assumptions and validate work.
Contribute to PRDs, documentation, and wikis.

Required Qualifications

Deep experience building and scaling production web applications end-to-end.
Fluent in both sides of the stack:
- Ruby on Rails (backend)
- Modern React (frontend)
Strong full-stack capability delivering complex projects from API design through UI delivery.
Advanced SQL proficiency and strong analytical skills for querying large datasets.
Experience working in environments where automated tests are expected (write/maintain tests on both backend and frontend).
Strong written and verbal communication skills in a fully remote setup.
Solid computer science fundamentals: SDLC, best practices, design patterns, object-oriented architecture, component-based frontend design.
Ability to work autonomously, proactively identify issues, and communicate clearly with stakeholders.
Proven ability to write clean, testable, maintainable React (hooks, state management, component composition).
Minimum 8+ years full-stack experience; strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails and modern JavaScript/TypeScript (React).
