Role Overview

Senior Software Engineer (Full remote — Texas, US)

Join Bonterra’s mission-driven engineering team to design and build reliable features across the stack, with a strong emphasis on UI/UX. You’ll own your work end-to-end—from sprint planning through implementation—and collaborate with product managers, designers, and QA.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build thoughtful, reliable features across full stack (frontend + backend services/APIs)
  • Evaluate tradeoffs and proactively communicate decisions considering business value and client/user impact
  • Partner with Product, Design, and QA to ship features that meet user needs and expectations
  • Deliver production-ready backend services and frontend experiences
  • Use AI coding assistants as part of everyday development

Requirements

  • 4+ years of full-stack JavaScript/TypeScript development in production systems
  • Strong React experience (component architecture, state management, performance)
  • Production experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL
  • Solid understanding of REST APIs and GraphQL (client and server side)
  • Solid backend experience with Node.js + TypeScript (building/maintaining production APIs and services)
  • Comfortable working with AWS (or comparable cloud)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices using GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or similar
  • Strong problem-solving skills and high EQ; collaborative communication across teams

Nice to Have

  • Experience with nonprofit or social impact technology
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Mobile development experience
  • AI-assisted UX and building AI-powered product features (e.g., LLM integration, agentic workflows)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science
