Senior Software Engineer

Role overview

Beam Benefits is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to be a hands-on engineering leader in an AI-First development environment. You’ll architect and deliver production code for user-facing workflows while modernizing how the team builds software.

Responsibilities

• Lead code delivery: Architect and write high-quality production code for complex, user-facing workflows; maintain a strong hands-on presence.
• Champion AI efficiency: Use AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Augment) to accelerate delivery and generate robust automated tests.
• Ensure system integrity: Validate, refactor, and simplify AI-generated output to maintain long-term reliability and maintainability.
• Apply senior engineering judgment: Lead mission-critical work with high autonomy and careful decision-making.
• Improve access to benefits: Build sophisticated product features that reduce manual effort for employers and brokers.
• Architect integrations: Develop reliable APIs and standardized integrations so the platform connects smoothly with partners.
• Advance the AI developer stack: Integrate Claude Code and similar tools into daily workflows to automate repetitive tasks.
• Create trustworthy systems: Scale logging, monitoring, and validation to keep workflows stable, predictable, and audit-ready.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Modern web stack, hands-on: Primarily React and Ruby on Rails (transferable senior expertise from other frameworks is valued).
• AI fluency: Experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude/ChatGPT/Cursor) to improve development workflows such as code generation, test creation, refactoring, or documentation.
• Integration expertise: Proven ability to integrate third-party APIs and AI-powered services in production.
• Foundational skills: Strong testing, debugging, and operating in cloud environments.
