About the role

Role Overview

Senior Software Engineer (Backend) at Bastion, focused on building and owning backend services for a stablecoin issuance and custody platform. The role is based in the US with a flexible hybrid option in NYC, or fully remote within the US.

Work Plan (Directional)

First 30 Days

Ramp on service layout, CI/CD, observability, and engineering conventions
Ship a small feature slice or quality-of-life improvement in one service
Add tests, dashboards, or runbook notes for what you touch

By 90 Days

Own a service surface/capability across the product with issuance-readiness in mind
Lead a medium-scope project (e.g., API contract updates, partner integration, or improving robustness of a critical path)
Improve reliability with stronger logging, tracing, alerts, and failure handling

By 180 Days

Drive cross-service impact (e.g., API versioning plan, data model migration, compliance-driven workflow change)
Shape technical direction via design docs and mentoring
Partner with product and compliance on pragmatic, regulation-aware tradeoffs

Example Problems You May Work On

Designing stable, evolvable APIs for custody/transfers/issuance without breaking downstream clients
Building idempotent, high-throughput job flows with strong audit trails
Hardening sensitive operations with hardware-backed isolation and robust key policies
Improving p95 latency via query tuning, caching, or backpressure

Requirements / Qualifications (Implied)

Senior-level backend engineering experience with ability to ramp quickly in a fast-moving startup environment
Strong ownership mindset: run safe production deploys, raise the bar, and lead projects
Ability to improve reliability and observability (logging, tracing, alerts, failure handling)
Experience designing and implementing APIs and robust backend workflows

Nice-to-Haves / Typical Stack

Go and TypeScript/Node.js (some Rust services)
gRPC and REST; GraphQL/tRPC at the edge for BFFs
Postgres, Redis, Kafka
Temporal for workflow management
AWS, containers, Kubernetes, Terraform
Observability/ops tooling like Datadog, Grafana, Sentry, Incident.io
Security/hardware-backed isolation using Nitro Enclaves
