About the role
Role Overview
Senior Software Engineer (Backend) at vCluster Labs, helping define the future of Kubernetes multi-tenancy. You’ll be a core architect of the vCluster Platform by working deeply with Kubernetes internals to build tools used by leading engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Kubernetes Deep-Dive: Work closely with Kubernetes internals to push container orchestration boundaries.
- Go Development: Write high-performance, resilient Go code powering core vCluster platform logic.
- End-to-End Ownership: Drive feature development from technical design through release with high autonomy.
- Open Source Innovation: Engage with the community and contribute to vCluster’s open-source projects.
- Build Next-Gen Tenancy Models: Help design scalable solutions for isolation and resource sharing beyond basic namespaces.
- Solve Hard Systems Problems: Tackle complex architecture and systems challenges where the solution is not straightforward.
Requirements
- Kubernetes mastery: Deep expertise in Kubernetes internals (architectural patterns, networking, storage).
- Strong Go proficiency: Ability to translate Kubernetes expertise into clean, efficient Go code.
- Builder mindset: Evidence of building via active GitHub projects, experiments, or open-source contributions.
- High agency: Self-driven and able to identify problems and solve them autonomously.
- Startup experience / grit: Comfortable with ambiguity and operating in a high-growth environment.
Bonus
- Upstream Kubernetes contributions: Docs, PRs, and/or active participation in Kubernetes SIGs.
- Early-stage organization experience: Experience functioning autonomously while building something new.

- Headquarters in San Francisco; distributed team with a remote-first culture.
