Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

Role overview

Senior Software Engineer (Backend) / Backend Infrastructure Engineer. Own both production backend services and the infrastructure they run on, bridging application code and cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain cloud infrastructure using Terraform across AWS and GCP
• Own CI/CD pipelines end-to-end to make production deployments “boring,” fast, and reliable
• Build production backend services in TypeScript and Node.js
• Create foundational backend infrastructure patterns (e.g., stream consumer archetypes, cron executors, worker patterns)
• Improve local development workflows, reduce build times, eliminate flaky infrastructure
• Build internal tooling to support a fast-growing engineering team
• Work with security/compliance on secrets management, IAM policies, network isolation, and audit logging in a regulated (HIPAA) healthcare environment

Requirements

• 5+ years in backend engineering, infrastructure engineering, or a hybrid
• Strong proficiency in a strongly typed/compiled language (e.g., Go, Rust, Java, TypeScript)
• Experience with AWS/GCP/Azure and comfort with Docker and containerized environments
• Strong automation mindset (automation-first; if done manually twice, script it)

Nice-to-haves

• Kubernetes experience
• CI/CD pipeline ownership (e.g., GitHub Actions, CircleCI)
• Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., HIPAA, SOC 2)
