Senior Software Engineer (Backend Python)

Role Overview

Senior Software Engineer (Backend, Python) at Voxel51. You will help build the open source SDK and enterprise backend systems powering dataset curation, model analysis, and integrations across the machine learning lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Develop the open source SDK and enterprise APIs, backend systems, and related product components (including UIs).
• Scale an enterprise solution deployed in customer cloud environments and on-prem to support very large vision AI datasets (petabytes of data).
• Write maintainable, flexible, performant, and well-tested production code.
• Build and maintain clean, scalable APIs.
• Contribute to team/department improvement through tooling, automation, and engineering best practices.
• Tackle technical challenges specific to unstructured data (images and video).

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional full-stack software engineering experience delivering maintainable, scalable systems and architectures.
• BS or MS in Computer Science (or related field).
• Proficiency in Python.
• Expertise with NoSQL databases, specifically MongoDB and/or DocumentDB and Elasticsearch.
• Experience maintaining or contributing to open source (or strong interest in starting).
• Ability to work effectively in a remote-first, collaborative environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience with TypeScript.

Compensation & Benefits

• Cash compensation: $180K–$220K (base salary range).

Location / Work Model

• Fully remote with hiring for candidates in North America.
• Ability to travel for at least 2 in-person retreats per year.
