Senior Software Engineer, Backend - Platform (Core Automation)

Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) – Platform (Core Automation) at Coinbase, you’ll help build AI infrastructure and automation solutions that streamline operations for customer support and compliance. You’ll apply advanced GenAI techniques to deliver secure, scalable, production-grade systems that improve customer experiences across Coinbase.

Responsibilities

• Explore and apply GenAI techniques, including LLMs and agentic AI, to solve complex organizational challenges
• Lead project execution by managing priorities, deadlines, and deliverables
• Write and maintain high-quality backend code in Python and Golang with strong testing practices
• Architect scalable and secure systems using modern cloud technologies and best practices
• Mentor teammates on design principles, coding standards, and AI productivity tooling adoption
• Debug complex issues to improve reliability, scalability, and operational ease
• Review architecture and security for feature designs across teams
• Build integration pipelines to connect with third-party vendors and streamline workflows
• Use generative AI responsibly (e.g., copilots) and apply human-in-the-loop practices to produce business-ready outputs

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience
• Proven expertise designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture
• Ability to write well-tested, high-quality code that meets customer needs
• Deep understanding of software engineering processes and quality practices
• Strong system design and coding skills
• Passion for building an open financial system using crypto/blockchain
• Excellent written and verbal communication

Nice to Have

• Experience navigating rapid company growth (e.g., startup-to-mid-size transition)

Location / Work Model

• Remote-first, but in-person participation is required throughout the year
• Multiple team/company offsites annually (attendance expected)
