About the role

Role Overview

Senior Backend Software Engineer (PHP) on the fully remote Engineering team at Feedonomics. You’ll help deliver and scale core infrastructure components and services for a robust, high-performance, data-intensive SaaS platform.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on the architecture, design, and development of scalable, highly available applications and services.
  • Solve complex infrastructure-related problems and provide post-release support for scalable applications.
  • Improve DevOps practices and tooling, using automation to strengthen the CI/CD pipeline and streamline deployment.
  • Present and defend architecture solution options to product owners and engineering leadership.
  • Run post-mortems to analyze failures and prevent recurrence.
  • Drive continuous improvement across end-to-end infrastructure and systems.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes that solve concrete business problems.
  • Become a domain expert by tracking industry trends and applying best practices.

Requirements

  • 5+ years backend programming experience.
  • 2+ years with PHP (strongly preferred).
  • 2+ years with one or more: MySQL (or similar), plus backend language experience such as Python, Go, Java, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of database schema design, caching, and scalability.
  • Strong understanding of communication protocols (e.g., TCP, RPC).
  • Experience with distributed systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to perform time and memory complexity analysis.
  • US work authorization required.
  • BS or higher in Computer Science or related field.

Nice to Haves

  • Caching technologies (e.g., Redis or Memcached).
  • DevOps experience.
  • Full-stack observability tools (e.g., New Relic).
  • Linux operating systems.
  • CI/CD and containerization tools (e.g., Docker).
  • Distributed systems and performance/security best practices.

Compensation

Pay transparency range: $135,960 – $203,940 (exact salary depends on location and qualifications).
