About the role
Role Overview
Senior Backend Software Engineer (PHP) on the fully remote Engineering team at Feedonomics. You’ll help deliver and scale core infrastructure components and services for a robust, high-performance, data-intensive SaaS platform.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate on the architecture, design, and development of scalable, highly available applications and services.
- Solve complex infrastructure-related problems and provide post-release support for scalable applications.
- Improve DevOps practices and tooling, using automation to strengthen the CI/CD pipeline and streamline deployment.
- Present and defend architecture solution options to product owners and engineering leadership.
- Run post-mortems to analyze failures and prevent recurrence.
- Drive continuous improvement across end-to-end infrastructure and systems.
- Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes that solve concrete business problems.
- Become a domain expert by tracking industry trends and applying best practices.
Requirements
- 5+ years backend programming experience.
- 2+ years with PHP (strongly preferred).
- 2+ years with one or more: MySQL (or similar), plus backend language experience such as Python, Go, Java, or similar.
- Strong understanding of database schema design, caching, and scalability.
- Strong understanding of communication protocols (e.g., TCP, RPC).
- Experience with distributed systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Ability to perform time and memory complexity analysis.
- US work authorization required.
- BS or higher in Computer Science or related field.
Nice to Haves
- Caching technologies (e.g., Redis or Memcached).
- DevOps experience.
- Full-stack observability tools (e.g., New Relic).
- Linux operating systems.
- CI/CD and containerization tools (e.g., Docker).
- Distributed systems and performance/security best practices.
Compensation
Pay transparency range: $135,960 – $203,940 (exact salary depends on location and qualifications).
