About the role

Role: Senior Software Engineer, Backend

You’ll join a small tactical team focused on building customer-impacting backend systems. Hearth is building AI-powered capabilities for home improvement businesses, and you’ll help ship production-ready features with strong engineering quality.

What you’ll do

Design and deliver complex backend solutions leveraging modern technologies (including AI) to improve customer experience
Build APIs and services that power AI-driven entrepreneurship for small businesses
Build and integrate financial service technologies (payments, banking, loans)
Support and operate technical infrastructure used by thousands of customers
Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and customer success to shape the product roadmap
Contribute to engineering excellence via code and design reviews
Write secure, testable, high-quality code and mentor other engineers

What we’re looking for

3+ years of experience building and maintaining core backend systems
AWS experience deploying and monitoring services
Ownership mindset: lead projects from planning through delivery and ongoing support
Strong attention to performance trade-offs
Experience with data pipelines and integrating with existing data infrastructure
Hands-on experience with financial services APIs (payments processors and/or lender origination)
Ability to work as a generalist across the stack when needed
Passion for building delightful applications and the systems that support them
Obsess over customer needs, quality, and iterative learning

The company is expanding into an AI “personal employee” that can autonomously qualify leads, book appointments, and follow up to generate sales.
