Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Role Overview

Senior Software Engineer, Backend in the Core Platform group at Headspace. You will build core platform capabilities needed to onboard and grow B2B customer installations, including authentication, payments, entitlements, and shared services across B2B and direct-to-consumer customers.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects from requirements gathering through implementation, working closely with product, design, and data engineering stakeholders.
• Prototype, architect, and code backend services across TypeScript/Node.js and Python/Django.
• Collaborate with engineering and cross-functional partners to define, design, ship, and monitor new features.
• Ensure robust testing and quality standards (unit, integration, end-to-end as needed).
• Influence system architecture and quality of core platform services.
• Design and build high-impact workflows for the care provider experience.
• Set standards for quality and technical excellence through code and design reviews, and improve engineering processes.
• Communicate technical ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences; provide and solicit constructive feedback.

Requirements

• 4+ years professional experience building APIs and services.
• Strong backend expertise with Python (Django) and TypeScript (Node.js).
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating cross-functionally.
• Proven track record delivering complex full-stack projects across product and technology initiatives.
• Strong communication skills (written/verbal) and documentation ability.
• Ability to make sound technical decisions based on requirements, constraints, and trade-offs.
• Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AWS.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Terraform.
• Experience building health tech software.

Location / Work Model

• Open to candidates across the US (must permanently reside in the US), full-time.
• Hybrid (SF Bay Area): 3 days/week in office.
• Remote (NYC, Seattle): remote roles.

Compensation

• Base salary range (US-wide): $122,400–$195,500 + equity + benefits.
• SF/NYC/Seattle range: $156,400–$195,500 + equity + benefits.
