About the role

Role Overview

Join a senior backend engineering team responsible for a unified data access layer that powers over 70% of the organization’s total API traffic. You’ll help evolve a sophisticated GraphQL platform that connects user-facing products with robust backend infrastructure, treating platform engineering as a product.

Responsibilities

  • Lead high-impact, complex projects to evolve the GraphQL data access platform.
  • Design and refine technical roadmaps from ambiguous requirements to concrete plans that improve reliability, capabilities, and performance.
  • Partner cross-functionally with infrastructure and product engineering teams to support tenant autonomy and improve end-to-end developer experience.
  • Share knowledge through pairing, mentorship, and high-quality code reviews.
  • Contribute to sustainable reliability, including participation in a shared on-call rotation focused on long-term reliability fixes.
  • Drive open-source improvements that benefit internal engineers and the broader community.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in backend or platform engineering (ideally owning a high-scale developer platform).
  • Proven ability to operate critical online backend services and ship high-visibility, complex software.
  • Strong GraphQL expertise; Kotlin preferred.
  • Strong collaboration skills across product and infrastructure teams.
  • Ability to thrive in deep work and solve hard problems with a focus on quality, scalability, and tenant team success.
  • Strong communication through documentation and peer collaboration.

Nice to Have

  • Interest in AI-enabled development workflows.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $191,000–$225,000 (annual), depending on skills and experience.
  • Performance-based bonuses and equity grants eligibility.
  • Remote-eligible within the United States; occasional office visits/team offsites.
  • Protected focus time and sustainable on-call structure.
  • Employee travel credits and an inclusive culture.
