About the role

Role Overview

Join Flock Safety as a Senior Software Engineer (Backend). You’ll be responsible for backend architecture, Go development, and optimizing PostgreSQL performance while contributing to architectural discussions and delivering impactful features in a fully remote environment.

Key Missions

Contribute to backend architecture and Go development, ensuring PostgreSQL integrity and performance
Participate in architecture reviews for APIs and backend services
Lead a mid-sized Go microservice as a technical leader, supporting platform improvements and scalability initiatives

Responsibilities

Build reliable backend systems and production-grade services
Improve platform architecture and help drive scalability
Profile and optimize Go services for latency and throughput
Improve performance and reliability of backend systems and databases

Requirements

8+ years of backend development, including 4+ years using Go in production
Deep expertise in distributed backend systems
Strong knowledge of Go internals and concurrency (goroutines, channels, sync primitives)
Experience building scalable Go microservices and APIs
Experience designing and tuning production systems for performance and reliability
3+ years with PostgreSQL (querying, schema design, performance tuning)
3+ years in database architecture
Excellent written and verbal communication; strong async communication skills
Proficiency with message queues / pub-sub / event-driven architectures
Experience building REST and gRPC APIs used by multiple clients/services

Nice to Have

Observability tooling: Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Grafana
Profiling and performance optimization in Go (including memory management)
Experience with CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes
