About the role
Role Overview
Senior Software Engineer (Backend) at fal, focused on building high-performance, reliable backend services for a fast-scaling, commerce-driven platform. You’ll work with complex distributed systems, backend APIs, relational databases, and event-driven architectures.
Responsibilities
- Identify, design, and develop foundational backend services powering fal’s commerce platform
- Partner with product teams to deliver solutions aligned with business requirements
- Write clear, well-tested, maintainable software and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for new and existing systems
- Improve robustness and scalability of distributed systems, APIs, databases, and infrastructure
- Conduct design and code reviews, create developer documentation, and develop testing strategies for robustness and fault tolerance
Requirements
- 5+ years building large-scale, fault-tolerant distributed systems and API microservices
- Expert-level programming in Python, Go, or Rust
- Ability to design/analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of system resources
- Proficiency writing and maintaining IaC
- Proficiency with version control and integrating IaC with CI/CD pipelines
Nice to Have
- Experience with payment processors and billing systems (e.g., Stripe)
- Experience with Kubernetes and/or containers
- Experience building/operating data infrastructure (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, Airflow)
Location & Compensation
- Downtown San Francisco, CA (relocation assistance offered)
- Compensation: $180,000–$250,000 + equity + comprehensive benefits
