About the role
Role overview
Senior Software Engineer, Backend at Cortex, building core backend systems for a new category of developer tooling. You’ll solve deep technical problems, tackle scalability, and work closely with product and support engineering to deliver enterprise-ready capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient backend systems and services for enterprise requirements
- Collaborate with other engineers to build new features and improve existing ones
- Optimize and improve performance, reliability, and scalability of backend systems
- Participate in production operations and perform incident response on a rotational basis
- Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback
- Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following best practices
- Partner with engineering, product, leadership, sales, and customers to understand design requests and user needs
- Improve planning, development, and deployment processes continuously
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related) or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of experience building backend applications using modern programming languages
- Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and cloud computing
- Experience with modern data storage (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
- Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and web development best practices
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to mentor and coach junior engineers

- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and programming languages
