Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Role overview

Senior Software Engineer, Backend at Cortex, building core backend systems for a new category of developer tooling. You’ll solve deep technical problems, tackle scalability, and work closely with product and support engineering to deliver enterprise-ready capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient backend systems and services for enterprise requirements
• Collaborate with other engineers to build new features and improve existing ones
• Optimize and improve performance, reliability, and scalability of backend systems
• Participate in production operations and perform incident response on a rotational basis
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following best practices
• Partner with engineering, product, leadership, sales, and customers to understand design requests and user needs
• Improve planning, development, and deployment processes continuously

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related) or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of experience building backend applications using modern programming languages
• Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and cloud computing
• Experience with modern data storage (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and web development best practices
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills
• Ability to mentor and coach junior engineers
