Role overview

Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Continuous Delivery) at Affirm. You will help build and improve the platforms, workflows, and guardrails that enable engineering teams to release independently with strong automation, standard patterns, predictable rollouts, and resilient recovery.

Responsibilities

Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team.
Lead engineers through ambiguous, open-ended problems to successful delivery.
Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics during ideation to articulate technical constraints and manage risks/trade-offs.
Proactively identify and escalate project, process, technology, or business issues; lead solutions.
Support operations and availability by creating/monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and participating in “keep the lights on” and on-call.
Foster quality and ownership by setting/improving code review and design standards; advocate beyond your team via writing and tech talks.
Support talent development through feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

Requirements

4+ years designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale (Python or Kotlin).
Experience building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
Experience building or evolving CI/CD, deployment, or release automation to reduce manual toil and improve rollout predictability, recovery, and auditability.
Comfort working on shared developer infrastructure and defining platform interfaces, templates, and guardrails for standardized deployment patterns.
Ability to define a technical plan for delivering a significant feature or system component with a simple, extensible design.
Writes high-quality code that is easy to understand and reuse.
Proven ability to make significant changes in a large codebase and build reusable tools and practices.
