Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer - Growth & App Infra)

Role Overview

Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer — Growth & App Infra) at Coinbase. You’ll work on large-scale, highly complex backend systems that bridge web-scale application constraints with blockchain technology, enabling real-time, low-latency updates and secure cloud infrastructure for crypto-forward products.

Responsibilities

• Build backend systems and infrastructure for consumer growth and app infrastructure.
• Solve unique, large-scale, complex technical problems spanning product constraints and backend systems.
• Help grow Coinbase toward a billion active users by supporting acquisition, engagement, and retention through foundational infrastructure.
• Develop and improve capabilities across growth tooling, including:
  • Referral and incentives programs
  • World-class notifications systems
  • Logged-out web experience
  • New user onboarding flow
• Operate with a growth-engineering “DNA”:
  • Impact-driven mindset (outcomes over outputs)
  • Full-stack minded (ability to span product + backend; when helpful for velocity)
  • Data-driven approach to pursue high-impact opportunities
  • High agency and accountability for delivering results

Requirements

• Experienced backend engineer capable of handling web-scale and high-frequency, low-latency systems.
• Ability to tackle problems that may span product, backend systems, ML, and data.
• Strong motivation to work on mission-critical problems in crypto and growth.

Nice-to-Haves

• Familiarity with growth/consumer product domains (acquisition, engagement, retention).
• Experience building real-time user-facing systems (notifications, onboarding, logged-out experiences).
