Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer - Advanced Trading)

Role Overview

Coinbase is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) for the Consumer – Advanced Trading team. You’ll build and scale the core backend systems that power crypto trading at Coinbase, delivering a seamless and secure trading platform for advanced users.

Responsibilities

• Build highly performant, highly available backend systems for traders worldwide
• Design robust, scalable systems that support many instrument types (e.g., Spot, Futures, Perpetual Futures)
• Define and communicate a long-term backend vision for maintaining and scaling the systems and the teams operating them
• Partner closely with product and design to deliver a best-in-class consumer trading experience
• Turn ideas into high-impact features customers will value
• Write high-quality, well-tested production code

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including experience handling web-scale traffic
• Experience designing/building/scaling production services over time
• Ability to compose systems using a service-oriented architecture
• Strong focus on product excellence and delivering measurable improvements
• Experience using generative AI tools and copilots responsibly (e.g., LibreChat, Gemini, Glean), including human-in-the-loop practices
• Demonstrated collaboration and mentorship/empowerment mindset within a team

Nice to Have

• Experience with active trading systems or other high availability financial systems
• Experience actively trading crypto or other financial instruments
• Startup-to-growth experience (rapid company growth)
• Experience modernizing/upgrading or re-architecting legacy systems
• Experience building financial reliability, security, or high-reliability systems
• Familiarity with Golang, MongoDB, Redis, Snowflake
