Senior Software Engineer (App Observability)

Role Overview

Join Honeycomb’s App O11y team as a Senior Software Engineer. You will design, build, and deliver backend systems and APIs, contribute to full-stack product features, provide technical leadership, and take ownership of software in production.

Key Missions

• Design, build, and deliver backend systems and APIs, with emphasis on clarity, maintainability, and backward compatibility.
• Build and maintain full-stack product features, contributing to:
  • Frontend: React/TypeScript
  • Backend: Go
• Lead delivery of complex projects by partnering with other teams and rotating through tech lead responsibilities.
• Support and own software in production, including participation in an on-call rotation.
• Communicate clearly in written and face-to-face contexts to maximize impact.

Requirements

• Experience leading complex technical projects, including breaking down ambiguous work and shipping incrementally.
• A track record of making others better, including providing effective code reviews and mentoring.
• Deep experience with backend systems, especially:
  • Building and maintaining APIs and backend services in Go
  • Strong judgment on API design and error handling
• Clear, open communication and willingness to give/receive feedback.
• Collaborative, flexible mindset working cross-functionally and iterating based on customer interaction.
• Interest in observability and production culture, with demonstrated experience supporting software in production.
• Frontend proficiency with React and TypeScript (even though primary expertise is backend).
• Ownership and autonomy, including identifying problems, proposing solutions, delivering end-to-end, tackling tech debt, and debugging across the stack.

Nice to Have

• Experience with AI-assisted development and using AI coding tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor).
