Senior Software Engineer, Android

Role overview

Join Marriott’s Android Platform team as a Senior Software Engineer, Android to help advance the Marriott Bonvoy app. You’ll act as a key technical contributor—combining hands-on mobile development with technical advisory and go-to expertise for complex, non-routine challenges.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Product Owners and cross-functional technical workgroups to deliver high-impact mobile solutions.
• Research, design, and implement new capabilities aligned with developer and user needs.
• Own and oversee multiple mini-projects, ensuring delivery on time and within scope.
• Provide technical leadership within feature teams, serving as an expert for architecture and difficult problems.
• Maintain and evolve scalable mobile applications and platform components.

Requirements

• 6+ years software development experience with expert-level knowledge across multiple languages and methodologies.
• 5+ years hands-on experience in native Android development using Kotlin/Java.
• Demonstrated expertise building and maintaining scalable apps using Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) for cross-platform solutions.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex technical topics in business terms.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience/certification.
• Experience providing technical leadership on feature teams.

Preferred experience / nice-to-haves

• Building apps for large, critical user bases.
• Contributing to SDKs/libraries with a focus on usability and reliability.
• Proficiency with Android Architecture components (e.g., Jetpack Compose, Data Binding).
• Strong architectural mindset with MVVM/MVI patterns.
• Multithreading experience with Coroutines or RxJava.
• Caching, data management, and storage (e.g., Room, SQLite).
• Working with dynamic data and services (e.g., JSON, REST APIs, GraphQL).
• Unit testing and Android testing frameworks such as Espresso.
• Data modeling, networking, and push notification frameworks.
• Agile experience (Scrum or SAFe).
• DevOps tooling experience (e.g., Git, Jira, Jenkins, Dynatrace).
• OSS contributions.
• 3rd-party SDK integrations (e.g., Google Maps).
• Packaging/publishing to Google Play.
• Android analytics/crash reporting/testing frameworks.
