Senior Software Engineer

Role Overview

AKQA is seeking a Freelance Senior Software Engineer to support a forward-thinking, fintech-adjacent investment group. The role is remote in the United States from July 1, 2026 through December 18, 2026 (40 hours/week), focusing on a modern full-stack TypeScript + Next.js product.

What You’ll Build

• Investor-facing interfaces and admin tooling
• Transactional workflows and associated UI/UX
• Server-side logic including API routes and service-layer boundaries
• Data integrations tying the platform together

Responsibilities

• Deliver full-stack feature work in a TypeScript + Next.js App Router codebase (including server actions, API routes, and service-layer logic)
• Build accessible, responsive, design-system-driven UI using React
• Design and maintain clean service, domain, and persistence boundaries for a scalable, maintainable, and auditable system
• Work with PostgreSQL using Prisma and Supabase (or demonstrate comparable ORM/relational DB depth)
• Implement authorization-aware data access patterns, including understanding auth/session management and security in regulated/fintech contexts
• Build and maintain form-heavy transactional workflows using React Hook Form and Zod (schema validation)
• Integrate with a CMS (ideally Contentful) for content-driven surfaces
• Write meaningful tests across unit, component, and integration layers using Vitest (or equivalent), prioritizing critical flows
• Work within CI/CD using GitHub Actions and deploy to Vercel while maintaining delivery reliability
• Collaborate with product, design, and engineering partners to shape solutions (not just implement)

Requirements

• Strong, production-proven TypeScript and Next.js App Router experience
• Full-stack capability across server-side logic and client-side React, with strong attention to UI craft and accessibility
• Architecture discipline (clear boundaries, dependencies, and data flow)
• Security/authorization awareness in environments requiring auditability and access control
• Product-minded ownership: good judgment on prioritization, tradeoffs, and quality
• Ability to clearly communicate technical decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to Have

• Experience with regulated workflows, investor portals, admin tooling, and/or complex data integrations (e.g., Databricks or Azure)
