Senior Software Engineer (AI Intelligence)

Role Overview

Join Honeycomb as a Senior Software Engineer (AI Intelligence). You’ll build AI agents that investigate, reason, and act on real observability data. The role spans agent infrastructure and ownership of the user experience in Canvas, collaborating closely with design and product.

Key Missions

• Ship AI product features across Canvas, agents, and MCP, from backend infrastructure through the TypeScript frontend.
• Improve agent infrastructure, including:
  • agent-store
  • agent-service
  • canvas-sync
• Own and advocate for the Canvas UX, partnering with design and product throughout development.

Responsibilities (Implied)

• Contribute to both frontend and backend development.
• Deliver production-ready software and maintain high engineering quality (address quality debt, don’t leave incomplete work).
• Participate in engineering leadership activities such as design reviews and mentoring.

Requirements

• Enough backend capability to own a backend workstream and contribute to agent infrastructure (prefer Golang or close experience).
• Strong React + TypeScript skills, with good opinions on component design and state management.
• Product delivery end-to-end: you’ve shipped features to users and understand how to get from design to production.
• Experience shipping products on top of LLMs/agents, including understanding what’s hard and how to work around it.
• Production experience: shipped to prod, investigated incidents, and ideally worked on-call.
• User experience ownership: empathy for users and willingness to strongly shape UX in your domain.
• Clear communication (written and verbal) and ability to iterate via feedback.

Nice-to-Haves / Preferred

• Familiarity with MCP or agent framework integrations (e.g., building on MCP and LangChain).
• Experience evaluating agents and measuring whether AI features actually work.
• Observability or developer tooling background (experience building for engineers debugging production systems).
