Senior Software Engineer

Role Overview

Join Affirm as a Senior Software Engineer on the Growth Platform Engineering team. You’ll build core systems and tools that drive user acquisition, engagement, and lifecycle growth, working with Product, Data Science, and Experience teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and implement large-scale backend systems.
• Develop APIs, event-driven services, and experimentation frameworks with impact across millions of customers.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Data/Analytics to support ideation and make informed technical decisions.
• Lead and mentor your team through ambiguity, supporting the product development lifecycle and resolving issues.
• Promote a culture of quality and ownership, enabling safe change across a large codebase.

Requirements

• 4+ years designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Proven ownership of growth initiatives (proactively seeking feedback from teammates, managers, and stakeholders).
• Ability to make significant changes in a large codebase and develop tools/practices for safe delivery.
• Ability to define technical plans for major features/components with simple, extensible design.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, data modeling, and service-oriented architecture.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
