Role Overview

Join Numero as a Senior Backend Engineer to architect and scale backend systems handling millions of daily requests and billions of records. This is a mission-critical role supporting consequential national campaigns.

Responsibilities

• Architect and scale backend systems using Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and OpenSearch.
• Scale the NumeroQL engine and operate at high traffic during election cycles.
• Develop and refine Numero Agents, AI-powered tools that enable clients to use natural language commands.
• Optimize payment processing and tandem fundraising features to ensure:
  • high conversion
  • precise compliance reporting
  • integrations with Stripe and PayPal.

Requirements

• 6+ years building and scaling user-facing backend systems.
• Strong production performance and cost instincts.
• High proficiency in SQL and relational data modeling at scale.
• Experience handling bottlenecks and indexing in high-volume environments.
• Strong architectural judgment and pattern quality.
• Interest in advancing AI-integrated engineering workflows (e.g., Cursor).

Nice to Haves

• Experience with LLM/agentic tooling in production.
• Familiarity with AI-native agent development and natural language-driven product interfaces.
