About the role

Role Overview

Join Numero as a Senior Backend Engineer to architect and scale mission-critical systems that handle millions of daily requests and billions of records. You’ll scale the proprietary NumeroQL engine, integrate AI agents into the product suite, and optimize high-volume payment processing.

What You’ll Do

  • Architect and scale backend systems using Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and OpenSearch.
  • Develop and refine Numero Agents, AI-powered tools enabling clients to manage the platform via natural language commands.
  • Optimize payment processing and tandem fundraising features to ensure:
    • high conversion
    • precise compliance reporting across Stripe and PayPal.

Requirements

  • 6+ years building and scaling user-facing backend systems.
  • Strong instinct for production performance and cost.
  • High proficiency in SQL and relational data modeling at scale, including handling bottlenecks and indexing in high-volume environments.
  • Strong architectural judgment and preference for high-quality patterns.
  • Eagerness to push AI-integrated engineering workflows (e.g., Cursor).

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience building or integrating LLM-powered features and agentic tooling.
  • Familiarity with OpenSearch and large-scale search/analytics infrastructure.
