Senior Software Development Engineer, Android

Role overview

As a Senior Software Development Engineer (Android) on Zillow’s Design Foundations team, you’ll help shape the Android design system that powers Zillow’s mobile experience. You’ll build reusable Android components, frameworks, and tooling that improve quality, consistency, and developer velocity across mobile teams.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build reusable Android components, patterns, and infrastructure using Kotlin and modern Android frameworks (including Jetpack Compose).
• Evolve the Android design system to help developers build faster and more effectively, including AI-assisted/agent-enabled tooling where it adds value.
• Create and maintain tooling to generate design-system-compliant Android code and improve development workflows.
• Maintain a high bar for code quality via technical design, code reviews, testing, and maintainable implementation practices.
• Manage the component library release lifecycle, delivering reliable, versioned, backward-compatible updates.
• Partner with engineers, designers, and product teams to resolve integration challenges and drive adoption of the design system.
• Write documentation and guidance so teams can effectively use shared components and tooling.
• Provide technical leadership across functions and influence platform direction to scale team impact.

Requirements

• 5+ years of Android engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Android architecture patterns, and modern development tooling.
• Experience building libraries/frameworks/reusable component systems, with strong interest in design systems and platform-level UI development.
• Strong understanding of accessibility, performance, animation, and Android UI best practices.
• Ability to independently design, implement, test, and deliver complex solutions, translating ambiguous design intent into scalable outcomes.
• Experience collaborating closely with designers and cross-functional partners.

Compensation (base pay range)

• California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington state, Washington DC: $160,900 - $257,100 annually
• Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia: $152,900 - $244,300 annually
• Equity awards may be provided in addition to base salary.
