Senior Software AI Engineer

Role overview

As a Senior Software AI Engineer on SqlDBM’s dedicated AI group, you will build the AI infrastructure that powers governed, enterprise data modeling workflows. This role focuses on integrating applied AI into backend systems—so AI becomes a first-class capability, not a bolt-on feature.

Responsibilities

• Own and extend backend systems that power SqlDBM’s AI capabilities
• Build AI-assisted data modeling workflows (natural-language input → accurate, governed schema output)
• Develop context-aware intelligence using schema context, naming standards, and governance rules
• Implement automated documentation and metadata generation pipelines from existing schemas
• Create integration layers so external AI agents/tools can use SqlDBM as a trusted schema authority
• Deliver consumption tracking and orchestration, including request routing, model selection, cost optimization, and usage metering
• Build governance-aware AI workflows with approval, validation, and compliance logic prior to production
• Develop and extend MCP server functionality (Model Context Protocol) for real-time schema access by agents/LLM-based tools

Required qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with C# / .NET
• Strong understanding of REST API design and asynchronous service architectures
• Experience integrating with external APIs and managing complex data pipelines
• Practical experience using LLMs via API, including:
  • prompt construction
  • context management
  • token economics
  • output validation
• Experience building systems that handle variable, structured data (e.g., schemas/metadata)
• Strong engineering fundamentals (e.g., testing and code review)

Nice-to-haves (implied by description)

• Experience building microservices and deploying backend services on AWS
• Familiarity with governance/compliance workflow design for production systems
