Senior Site Reliability Engineer, Workforce Identity

Role Overview

You’ll join the IT Operations Corporate Engineering team as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) focused on Workforce Identity. The team builds and scales Coinbase’s identity and access management (IAM) platform, owning reliability, scalability, and security for authentication, authorization, and identity lifecycle across a distributed global workforce.

What You’ll Do

• Own reliability and availability of corporate IAM systems end-to-end, including:
  • On-call rotation
  • Incident response
  • Root cause analysis
  • Blameless retrospectives to maintain 24x7 uptime
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automation tooling to:
  • Streamline IAM platform deployments
  • Reduce manual operational tasks
  • Test changes progressively before production rollout
• Partner with IT, Security, and Engineering as an IAM and DevOps SME on:
  • Identity lifecycle
  • Provisioning
  • SSO
  • MFA
  • Access control architecture
• Improve observability and disaster recovery by:
  • Defining metrics
  • Implementing monitoring
  • Designing recovery strategies aligned to strict SLA requirements
• Strengthen documentation by maintaining runbooks, system configuration guides, and troubleshooting procedures.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years in site reliability or infrastructure engineering with hands-on IAM ownership using platforms such as:
  • Okta, Duo, Auth0, EntraID, Ping, or similar
• Proven success building automation/tooling for IAM use cases including:
  • Identity lifecycle & provisioning
  • SSO, MFA
  • ABAC/RBAC at enterprise scale
• Proficiency in at least one modern language: Go, Python, Ruby, Java, or C#
• Experience designing/maintaining CI/CD using Git-based workflows and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform)
• Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, including IaC, container orchestration, and automated deployment frameworks
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight

• Coinbase is remote-first, but not remote-only; quarterly in-person working sessions (“surges”).
